Paul Ryan, an adidas professional, placed second in 4:03.74 in his debut at the USATF 1 Mile Road Championships presented by Toyota as part of the Grand Blue Mile presented by Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Des Moines, Iowa. Ryan, an All-American in the 1,500 meters at Washington State, moved from fifth in the final 200 meters before being held off by Vincent Ciattei of Nike Oregon Track Club Elite in 4:03.20.
