Eric Avila, an adidas professional athlete representing Golden Coast Track Club, won the USATF 1 Mile Road Championships presented by Toyota in 3:58.96, competing on the streets of Des Moines and finishing on the Blue Oval at Jim Duncan Track at Drake Stadium. Avila rallied from third on the final lap to hold off Craig Engels (3:59.24) and Clayton Murphy (3:59.52) to capture the national championship after placing second in 2018.
